• Provides holistic patient centered care for up to 4 high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients. Care includes: fetal monitoring, safe administration of high risk medications including magnesium sulfate for antepartum and postpartum patients, and patient and family education.
• Documentation of thorough assessments and reassessments of patients and fetuses
• Managing care of patients with pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, diabetes, preterm premature rupture of membranes, advanced maternal age, pediatric, substance abuse and/or withdrawal, fetal anomalies, as well as patients who suffered intrauterine fetal demises
• Performs nursing interventions as needed such as IV starts, catheterizations, and phlebotomy

High Risk Antepartum Unit

Level 1 Trauma Center

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

• Provides holistic patient centered care for up to 4 high risk antepartum patients. Care includes: continuous monitoring, safe administration of high risk medications including magnesium sulfate and insulin drips for antepartum and postpartum patients, and patient and family education.
• Cross trained to provide care for high-risk postpartum patients
• Documentation of thorough assessments and reassessments of patients and fetus'
• Managing care of patients with pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, diabetes, preterm premature rupture of membranes, advanced maternal age, pediatric, substance abuse and/or withdrawal, fetal anomalies, as well as patients who suffered intrauterine fetal demises
• Performs nursing interventions as needed such as IV starts, catheterizations, and phlebotomy
• Precepted new nurses or cross-trained nurses from other departments to the unit
• Attended hospital-wide Safety Coach meetings to ensure patient-care areas are safe and in compliance with hospital regulations

• Assist patients with activities of daily living oral care, toileting, dressing, incontinence care
• Answer call lights promptly
• Support admissions and discharge process by assisting Registered Nurse perform initial 'skin man' upon admissions and removing IV prior to wheeling down
• Comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse
• Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.

• Responded to members and guests needs using an upbeat and professional demeanor
• Responsible for membership sales, renewals, and prospect follow up as needed
• Provided customer service to members, guests, program participants at the facility and over the phone.

• Served as first point-of-contact for patients and their families upon arrival to the mother-baby unit
• Assisted with processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Assembled and maintained patient records and charts
• Uploaded confidential documents into EPIC database and completed clerical tasks
• Assisted in monitoring HUGS infant security system between different units within Family Birthplace.
