I am an aspiring nursing student who has completed the CNA coursework and am ready to take my board certification. I am also a manager in the hospitality industry, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Literature from Linfield University where I graduated cum laude. I am an excellent multitasker, a strong communicator, and work well with others.
After excelling in my former position as a shift lead, I was promoted to assistant manager. This position kept the responsibilities I had prior, with the addition of labor and food cost responsibilities, creating balanced schedules, hiring new employees, training shift leads, and local store marketing. One of my main responsibilities off the floor is local store marketing. For this task, I reach out to local businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations to organize fundraisers, set up catering, and use these partnerships to promote our position in the community as well as increase revenue.
Once I graduated from college, I returned to Burgerville and began the process of training to become a shift lead. As a shift lead at Burgerville, I supervised all restaurant employees and ensured that our service was above and beyond with every customer. Outside of supervising my employees, I was in charge of making sure we hit our daily sales projections, training new employees, recording temperature logs, taking inventory, working with vendors, and communicating any crew issues with the rest of my fellow managers.
I began at Burgerville as a seasonal crew member. As a crew member, I was a dependable worker, as I can work in multiple positions: Cashier, Drive-Thru, Grill, and Food Prep. I have also trained other crew members. Working with so many customers in a day, I learned great customer service. In this position, multitasking was essential as well as being an outgoing and friendly team player.
During my time at Linfield, I worked in the Writing Center. I had two jobs within the Writing Center. First, I was paired with a freshman inquiry class, where I met with around 25-30 students every week and helped them with all of their assignments for that class, as well as improving basic writing skills. The second part of my job at the writing center is as a consultant for anyone who comes in for help, whether that be a research proposal, essay, or presentation.
During my third year at Linfield, I was a Peer Educator for the Peer Body Project. The Peer Body Project is an empowering journey that invites women to challenge the thin ideal and learn to love beauty in every way it presents itself. Through my internship, I led hour-long sessions with another peer educator with other female college students where we discussed different techniques we could use to challenge beauty standards and strategize ways that we can help ourselves and others in the body-positive movement.
Assisted with daily living tasks and health-related needs, such as oral care, grooming, assisting with meals, and mobility assistance. I also occasionally would take her to doctor’s visits and on errands when she was able to complete such activities. I provided care through different stages of mobility and cognition. I learned that the best support and care that I could provide for my grandmother emotionally was to meet her where she was and center her care around what worked best for her and what provided her the most comfort.
At the MEDP, I ran the preparation for the summer internship programs that they offer. I was in charge of connecting and communicating with host sites, college department heads and career centers, and local high schools. I conducted all of the marketing for these programs and created efficient ways to score applicants. At the end of my internship, I held a meeting with the host sites to inform them of their list of applicants and how the programs would run.
During the summer of 2018, I had the chance to be a part of the Telephone Outreach Project. There, I called members of environmental campaigns to give them updates about the campaigns and ask if they would like to donate. At this job, I honed my ability to converse with others as I was on the phone for the entirety of every shift, talking to people. It was a great opportunity to be involved in the community.
As a server at Laurel Parc, I was in charge of taking orders, delivering food, answering phones, restocking supplies, assembling some food, bussing tables, general clean-up, and keeping the residents happy. Our number one priority was the residents. This job gave me the chance to learn how to accommodate all types of guests due to the spectrum of mobility and cognitive abilities of residents.
As an intern at Fournier Group, I filed paperwork, made copies, answered phones, sent and sorted mail, ran errands, and was a backup receptionist. The internship ended at the end of the summer. By having this internship two summers in a row, I learned how to interact in a professional environment and the basics of the insurance industry.
