Lead the organization to optimal and inclusive physical security risk management practices for the complex environments in which it operates. Provided support and leadership across a wide range of areas including crisis and incident response, asset protection, programmatic work, travel safety and event security. In partnership with with the Director of Information Security, Director of Facilities, and the Vice Presidents, this role provided unified security risk management leadership across the system.

Responsible for safeguarding people and property in Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital buildings, facilities, and grounds. Also responsible for overseeing the activities of other fire and safety officers for an assigned shift with an emphasis on ensuring policies and procedures are followed.

Responsible for routine patrol duties with emphasis on investigation and suppression of crimes: combating, extinguishing and preventing fires; and performing hazardous tasks under emergency conditions. Knowledgeable of laws and ordinances of the City of Kalamazoo and all other pertinent regulations.

Other positions held within the Public Safety Department include Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team member (KVET), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) member (11 years), Tactical Response Unit member, Community Police Officer, and award-winning Honor Guard member (20 years).

Identified problem areas through interviewing and background investigations concerning family and individual living habits, criminal history, and substance abuse. Made authoritative recommendations on juvenile's placement and maintained a variety of contacts with law enforcement personnel and court officials.
