Journalist-cum-communications writer/editor with multiple years of experience developing communications that are in alignment with an organization's strategy, objectives, plans, mission, and values. Work experience includes writing about the health sciences in newsletters and for websites.
I wear many hats in service to artists and arts organizations, including those of:
■ Ghostwriter
☛ Want to write a memoir but lack the time and inclination? Hire me to do it for you! I did all the interviews, research, and writing for the memoirs of four inspiring and insightful arts professionals, each of whom put their bylines on the books after approving their contents. The memoir subjects were:
✮Robert Beseda, an actor who served as the assistant drama dean at UNC School of the Arts;
✮Lillian Shelton, who directed the Secrest Artists Series of Wake Forest University;
✮John Sanger, a musician/entrepreneur from Virginia; and
✮Flonnie Anderson, who started the first community theater for blacks in the South and became the first black actor and director for the Little Theatre of Winston-Salem.
■ Publicist
☛ When I covered the arts for the Winston-Salem Journal, I dealt with publicists and others who were constantly pitching story ideas. I learned a lot about best PR practices in the process, and I’ve shared much of it in articles on my LinkedIn page. Hire me if you value street smarts in your relations with the media.
■ Writer of Articles Aimed at Alumni, Prospective Students
☛ A profile, feature, or Q&A on the website of your alma mater can help raise awareness of the great work you’re doing. Let’s ask an editor if we can collaborate on an article that would add to the ones I’ve filed for Rice, Appalachian State, the UNT College of Music, and UNC School of the Arts.
■ Content Writer/Editor
☛ By “content,” I mean any text you want to share with your audience. Examples might include an “About Us” section on a website, an explanatory note in a program booklet, a social media post, or a fundraising campaign’s case for support.
■ Writer/Editor of Obituaries
☛ When a president leaves office or a celebrity retires, reporters often write their obits so that such pieces are all but ready for immediate publication (aka "in the can"). I can apply the same stress-reducing procedure to the preparation of an obit for any arts professional who wants to disseminate an accurate, comprehensive account of their life's highlights.
