By being a camp counselor, I built my leadership and communication skills by working with children in grades K-5. I was able to formulate close relationships with all of the children in my group and was also able to form great relationships with my co-workers.
By being a tutor and classroom assistant I had the opportunity to work with students in middle school who were struggling with reading. Through this experience I was able to improve my communication skills by working with the students one-on-one to improve their reading skills in a way that best fit their learning styles. Additionally, I had the opportunity to shadow one of the school's english teachers, she allowed me to assist in helping teach the students proper essay-writing skills.
As my second year as a camp counselor for the C.W. Avery YMCA, I was able to further develop critical thinking skills that allowed me to overcome any obstacles that occurred whilst working with K-8th grade students in order to ensure that they had a fun and safe summer.
While volunteering through LeapFrog I had the opportunity to tutor a third grade student to help improve his reading skills. I was able to develop strong behavioral management skills as I had to ensure that my student stayed on task during our lessons even when he didn't feel like learning for the day.
