Work History

Classroom Teacher/Graduation Coach

Bend-LaPine School District
08.2010 - Current
  • Worked at La Pine High School, a rural school of about 500 students for 13 years, occupying such roles as Activities Director and 9th Grade Graduation Coach
  • Taught Spanish, World History, World Issues, Psychology, Sociology, Government, and Leadership
  • Interacted with a wide variety of learners, notably many students highly affected by generational poverty, substance abuse, as well as community indifference to higher education
  • It was an enlightening and impactful position in which I gained immeasurable knowledge and skills needed to provide all learners with a more equitable learning experience.

Student Teacher (Intern)

Wayne Memorial High School
08.2009 - 05.2010
  • Master's degree and teacher education program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor MI, while teaching with a mentor teacher during the day at Wayne Memorial High School
  • Wayne Memorial High School is a culturally diverse school of close to 2000 students, many of whom come from economically and systemically disadvantaged backgrounds
  • While completing student teaching, I had the pleasure of working with scholars who were in our Spanish 1- AP Language and Culture Courses
  • This experience laid the ground work for my philosophy that I still carry today- all students deserve equity in educational access and opportunity, and in order to provide this, we must become unwavering champions for our pupils.
