Plan, assign, direct, supervise, and coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary staff providing behavioral health treatment services, social and rehabilitation services, and consultation and education services to consumers, public and private agencies, and the community.

Evaluate overall unit activities, including methods and procedures for effectiveness and consistency with program goals and objectives,; recommending and implementing changes in program, policies, and procedures as necessary.

Evaluate performance of personnel and take or recommend appropriate course of action; interview, select, and recommend the hiring of new staff members.

Provide guidance to subordinates on departmental philosophy, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures through casework conferences, staff meetings, and work review; assist and participate in the development and coordination of in-service training and staff development programs.

Make or review decisions on difficult consumer assessment and casework matters.

Work with other public, private, and community organizations providing health and human services to mentally and emotionally disabled individuals to gain and ensure cooperation in order to achieve program goals; participate in behavioral health conferences and local area committees; may participate in regional or countywide community needs assessment and program planning development and evaluation activities.

Assist in preparing annual budget requirements and monitor expenditures to ensure unit is within funding provisions; prepare reports and correspondence regarding workload statistics, casework and unit methods, and procedures.

• Supervises, mentors, trains assigned staff and supervise operational duties and responsibilities including but not limited to: Supervising, delegating work, training, mentoring, and providing development and growth opportunities to assigned staff
• Orientating new staff to the Authorizations Unit
• Evaluating employee performance, providing feedback to staff, and coaching and counseling when performance issues arise
• Development and evaluation of the newly formed Authorization Unit, assist with development of the policy and procedures
• Advise on work problems, assign, and review work, train staff, approve leave time, counsel on behavior problems, give input on work performance evaluation, write work performance evaluations for supervisor's signature
• Interview candidates for hiring, recommend candidates for hiring, work with staff for effectiveness of service delivery
• Educating providers, in conjunction with Provider Services staff, as to efficient and accurate methods of submitting service authorization requests
• Tracking all authorizations that come into the Authorization Unit
• Investigate and follow up on complaints, grievances and quality issues related to authorization process
• Ensuring that programs are notified in writing of any denials in a timely and culturally competent manner, in accordance with state mandates
• Assist with gathering analyzing information, preparing reports, and preparing documentation in preparation for audits and other regulatory activities
• Coordinating and participating in special projects
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Provide mental health referrals to Medi-Cal Beneficiaries of San Bernardino County
• I am the Point of Contact for AB1299 for San Bernardino County
• I am responsible for linking all children placed in foster care in San Bernardino County to mental health services
• I process grievance complaints provided by consumers of DBH County clinics, Contract Clinics and Fee for Service Providers
• I process Treatment Authorization Request, Service Authorization Request and SB 785.
