  • My current role with Empire Field Service is to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures as well as repair, recondition and maintain equipment and malfunctions and failures, all well maintaining a good client relationship
  • When on nights, I am the night shift Client Contact
  • This role is in place due to not having a night shift lead, the client can contact me about any decisions that needs to be made on equipment or moving the technicians around to support the workload.

SR Supervisor of Planning

  • February of 2023, I accepted the position of SR Supervisor of Planning for Mine Maintenance in the Heavy-Duty Truck Shop
  • My role as the SR Planner is to oversee the division maintenance planning function, which includes direct supervision of the planning staff, working with the frontline supervisors, ensure effective job planning, scheduling, communications, preparations, budgeting and forecasting
  • I was the owner over all major contracts and funding for day-to-day work and extended projects
  • In the role I worked closely with accounting to make sure we are meeting our forecasted budget on all equipment and shop expenses
  • It is also my duty to work side by side with our contractors and contract managers to make sure we are meeting and exceeding all job expectations
  • I work side by side with our main contractor, Empire to make sure all TRP's are scheduled, component/parts are readily available for the day-to-day work and upcoming planned work
  • I would also meet with them weekly to make sure all funding and cash calls were in place for the weekly accruals along with weekly WIP and Core Parts Return meeting to ensure we were doing what is needed to meet the set KPI's and forecast.

Supervisor in the Heavy-Duty Truck Shop

  • December of 2019, I accepted the position for Supervisor in the Heavy-Duty Truck Shop
  • My immediate role was for the 5M, field supervisor
  • My main role was to help dispatch mechanics to the appropriate jobs, help with trouble shooting and make sure all field employees were doing their jobs safely
  • After leading this role for three months I was then moved into the shop to manage the truck fleet
  • My main role as the truck shop lead is to mitigate the work, set priorities, manage shop space, make decisions on all work in the shop, all while making sure all employees are following all SOPs and working safely
  • It is also my job to work side by side with empire to make all the right calls on the jobs and investigate failed components, that way the proper repairs can be made
  • As the haulage lead, I am also the fill SR supervisor for my current crew
  • I am now currently the Technical Support Supervisor for Haulage Maintenance
  • My key roles are to help with long range planning, component PCRs, component failures, hiring and oil analysis reports
  • I am also currently the SR
  • Haulage Fill in supervisor where on many occasions I am fulfill the role and make the decisions of the shop work scope, planning and handling any ongoing HR issues for the shop.

SR RAMP Tech

  • June of 2019, I took a permanent fill in position as a SR RAMP Tech and later accepted a full-time position
  • The role of the RAMP team is to monitor equipment at the site using real-time technology to collect and analyze data with the goal of achieving higher equipment availability and lower maintenance costs
  • This position will also assist in operator education
  • We can see exactly what is going on with the equipment in a Realtime event and this help us with preventing major component failures such as engines, brakes, pumps, transmissions, and many other components
  • This technological tool also helps when making repairs, we can run a trend at any time in the alarms history to help the field tech goes directly to the source of what is causing the issue
  • Operator coaching is another advantage we have that favors not only the health of the truck but their safety as well
  • If the operator has an event such as an engine over speed, we can see what the operator was doing, call them and explain what they could have to done to prevent this event
  • This saves on major unnecessary wear on components
  • Another role in the process is being the maintenance dispatcher
  • This key role you must dispatch mechanics to jobs and be able to prioritize accordingly
  • This is a huge leadership role where you control whether somethings to be worked in the field or sent to the shop but also keep the mechanics and operators safe
  • During this time, I also became the SR RAMP workshop representative
  • Certain RAMP techs from every site would meet with the RAMP superintendent at corporate for workshop
  • During this workshop we would look at alarms and re write their logics if the alarm was not working right
  • We performed this task for Freeport site worldwide
  • This furthered my ramp knowledge even further and I was able to go back and help better our on-site RAMP techs.

Journeyman position

  • I graduated my apprenticeship at the top of my class for Heavy Equipment and put in the heavy-duty garage to starts my career as a Diesel Diagnostic Mechanic
  • After two months of being in the shop I got a field promotion to the fill a needed spot as a pit mechanic
  • In the field I get to work on all the mobile heavy equipment the mine has
  • My main job objective is to keep everything running and when it does go down to fix it as quick as possible to put the equipment back in production
  • Mainly trouble shooting equipment for hydraulic and electrical issues is what the job consists of
  • Also repairing leaks and changing of failed pumps, cylinders, and motors.

Repairman position

  • The last year of my apprenticeship focused on RCM related tasks
  • I went through all lubrication, bearings, seals, and failure analysis classes that Freeport has to offer
  • We would Xray ball studs, bed liners, pumps, motors, and suspensions to try and catch a failure before it happened
  • I would also do failure analysis reports with the RCM to tell how and why a component failed
  • I spent two weeks at the oil lab in Safford for the last portion of the RCM phase
  • At the oil lab I was task trained and taught to run the ICP-OES, FTIR, VISCOMETER, PARTICLE COUNTER, TITRATION (TANT/TBN), CRACKLE TEST, DIGITAL MICROSCOPE, and PQ INDEX
  • These machines are what they use to detect future failures in components such as engines, final drives, pumps, motors, differentials, and transmissions
  • Transfers of coolant, fuel dilution, and all other oils can also be detected through these machines
  • I had the opportunity to also learn how to type the reports they would send to the shops where future failures were detected so they could try and prevent it before it happened
  • Welding was the last portion of my apprenticeship where our welds would be tested
  • After passing a visual inspection the welds were sent off to be put through and X-ray test
  • I passed both my 3G and 4G weld test where I would become certified through the company.

Repairman position

  • My second year consisted of major overhauls on the equipment
  • Mainly small haul trucks, water trucks, lube trucks, dozers, front end loaders, rubber tire dozers and motor graders
  • I would completely take the equipment down to the frame and replace all major components such as engines, pumps, motors, final drives, and transmissions
  • All hoses, bearings and seals would be replaced in the process as well.

Apprentice

  • I went through a three-year apprenticeship through Freeport McMoran
  • During these three years I learned a lot about the heavy equipment I was going to be working on and fix plant equipment as well
  • For the first year of the apprenticeship, I was exposed to fix plant, which was small crushers, belts, rollers, gear boxes, pumps motors and hydraulics
  • Also, I was sent through many classes such as bearings and seals, lubrication, and advanced lubrication
  • I would put these skills to use out in the field when I would work in the screening plant, which is a small crusher to make the stemming and road base for Morenci
  • We would have to PM the plant and all major and minor repairs to it such as replacing rollers, crushers, gear boxes, motors, and shakers to keep it up and running
  • Preventive maintenance on the hydraulic shovel also gave me exposure to more jobs with pumps and motors along with main oil and lube changes.

  • I worked as a laborer in the truck shop where my main job was to order parts for the mechanics, create and close work orders
  • During this I was exposed to many computer programs such as SIS by Caterpillar, SAP, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • I also got a lot of time to work with the PM crew and do minor repairs on the equipment which really helped me when I started my apprenticeship for the company
  • Preventive maintenance consists of draining all oils, taking oil samples, replacing filters and corrective actions to pumps, motors, cylinders, and all major components to make sure the equipment runs efficient.
