I am a heavy equipment operator for the railroad division. Working for class 1 railroads across the country. My daily tasks can consist of working railroad abandonment's. Operating midsize excavators, skid steers, front end loaders and cutting tools to tare out old rail lines. I also haul skid steers and other bundling equipment to jobsites across the country. When doing this I am a lone worker responsible to contact the track supervisor for the area before entering railroad property. Once on site I sort and bundle used railroad ties and ship out the good ones. When I sort all of the ties on site I make sure the site is clean of all debris before moving onto the next site. While doing this I have to fallow all FRA, railroad, and national salvage rules when working next to a live track. Currently we are working in Texas alongside Union Pacific's SMRT 700 crew. We are responsible for the cross ties that the SMRT train hauls to us. We sort and bundle the good ties into three different grades using skid steers and ship them out on semi trucks back to other class 1 railroads and wholesalers.
