  • Wait until immigrants come from the processing center to open the gates.
  • When immigrants arrived, we lined them up in a single-file line and gave them directions on what to do with their paperwork.
  • We escorted them inside the building and got copies of their paperwork.
  • Once we got all copies down, we let the supervisors in charge speak with the people. As soon as they finished speaking, we were ordered to let them use the restroom for a shower and handed immigrants their food.
  • We escorted immigrants onto buses or passenger vans, so they could leave for a designated area.
  • Before leaving, we would inspect their belongings to make sure they didn't make or have a weapon of some sort.

FEMA Immigration Camp (1 year and 2 months) Duties:

  • I stood or sat at my assigned spot for 12 hours.
  • Monitored immigrant detainees to be within the premises and not escape.
  • Inspected sleeping areas for any weapons, sharp objects, or unallowed objects.
  • Monitored detainees when they had playtime outside, escorted them to the restroom or showers, and handed them their food.
  • While the detainees were asleep, we had to rove the area to keep an eye on them, making sure they weren't doing anything else other than sleeping.
  • At the time of COVID, we had to escort detainees to the testing area.
  • When new detainees arrived at the site, we had to escort them from the bus or van to their designated area.
  • When detainees would leave the site with case workers, we had to escort them onto the bus or van.
  • We had to interact with detainees when a fight would break out to seperate them.
  • If fights broke out, sometimes we would have to handcuff them and escort them to the person in charge.
  • Sometimes assigned to be on Surveillance Cameras for 3 hours to monitor detainees.
  • Roved around areas where coverage was needed for coworkers to get a 10-minute break.

Duties at the hospital (5 months):

  • Stood for long periods of time.
  • When inmates from immigration or county jails arrived, we would have to assist nurses in walking them into the room.
  • Nurses or Doctors would have us wait outside/inside beside officers to assist incase they would become too aggresive.
  • Assisted officers when detainees tried to escape from handcuffs or shackles.
  • When some (not all) officers would let detainees be without cuffs, I would help by keeping an eye on them to ensure they did not reach for weapons.
  • When some detainees spent the night, some nurses felt unsafe going into the room, so they would have me give them orders or be right beside them in case of anything.
  • Monitored the emergency room, entrances, and around the building and parking lot for any disturbances.
  • Helped clients during stressful situations.
  • Gave greetings and directions.
  • Kick rowdy people out of the building
  • I responded as backup when a tough situation occurred to assist my coworkers.
