• When Testing Employees fail an exam the only place to retake exam is in the regular classroom. Then the remainder of employees mill about in the lunch area and talk which can be heard in the regular class room. So, our team landed on the idea to use an empty office. I located the conference table in the surplus storage and created a Conference Room C allowing for a quiet place for retakes, a small classroom, or a place for meetings. This allows the remainder of class the use of the regular classroom to study during retakes.
• Team Roseville was discussing the number of students who struggled with the concept of “Flags” used in Railroad warning system. And We came up with the Idea of having flags to show the students so they get a better idea of what to look for on the main line. So I went to the Maintenance of Way building and aquired a set of flags and mounted the on the wall in the lunch room in the order in which they are likely to be seen. This seemed to help with student understanding, evidenced by asking students if this helps and quizzing them on proper use of each Flag.
• I noticed the R.O.S. machines stored in a laptop cabinet and the associated equipment in boxes. Making it a struggle to set up each time the machines were needed for Remote Control Training, not only taking time but making sure all the parts were there. So once again I converted an office used for visiting instructors into the dedicated R.O.S. Room that visit instructors could also use. This room allowed students to practice whenever they had extra time such as when finished with an exam. This room also made it easy to maintain inventory of equipment and saved equipment from damage by improper storage technics.
• While instructing Remote Control Operator Training we rely on the Service Unit to supply Locomotives and equipment for field training days. There were many times when Locomotives were not available for our use. My solution was to utilize this simulator used by a volunteer organization to take to schools. This Simulator allowed students to practice cutting in and out of Air Brakes with minimal safety risk, as it can be done in a classroom environment instead of on a locomotive. And availability was there as long as the training center was open. I also set up an R.O.S. Machine on it to show the steps to linking up and this made a good visual representation of a locomotive cab. By having the simulator available, test scores improved by an estimated 30%. More than that, I found student understanding improved significantly when we did get on a locomotive to link up.
• I noticed when it came time to take exams on the laptops, the mice were stored in a cardboard box and would get tangled easily. So, it would take several minutes to untangle the cords in order to use the mice. So, we came up with a shoe storage device with pockets. And it worked very well. We save time and mice
