  • I am currently providing primary care services in a state inpatient psychiatric hospital. In this setting, due to the acute mental health issues the patients are experiencing, It is more challenging to meet the physical needs such as an examination, obtaining lab tests, communicating with the patient in regard to their health issues, and having them as a participant in their care.
  • I am responsible of 1 Admission unit of 28 patients with assigned cross overage of another 28 patients which can be an admission unit or a long-term unit.
  • we can average 2-4 admissions, discharges, transfers in a day.
  • due to being a state hospital we have seen an increase in Forensic patients at about 85% of our population now.
  • there is a lot of acute injuries related to the psychotic, aggressive nature including fall risks, head trauma, intracranial bleed, Hand fractures, cardiopulmonary issues, among others.
  • I work as part of the psychiatric team in, a collaborative manner, to bridge the holistic health of the patient in mind and body.
