Askew was honored by Bertie County as the 2022 Alumni Spotlight for October. He shares the field with a Judge, Army General, Coach, and Medical Doctor. In May 2022, Askew was named to serve on the Appearance Commissions for the Wilson City Government, and in September, he was named to serve as an ambassador with the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce. In June 2023, Askew delivered the Commencement Address to the graduating class at Bertie Early College High School. Askew was honored as the 2024 Ambassador of the Year through the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce.

Reporting to the VP, Advancement. This position leads NCC's marketing, public relations and communications. Also, with team develops innovative engagement strategy for internal and external stakeholders to effectively and consistently deliver a unique experience to campus-partners and guests while advancing constituent relationships in accordance with college's goals.

  • Provides direct oversight of the Marketing Department
  • Responsible for overseeing college communications, graphic design, printing, website management, public relations, social media and marketing
  • Coordinates and directs all College marketing initiatives to best represent the College to a variety of audiences, internal and external stakeholders
  • Work regularly with Provost/Chief Academic Officer (CAO)/Student Development Officer (SDO) and staff to develop data-driven strategic processes and initiatives to support enrollment
  • Serve as strategic advisor to President and Provost/CAO/SDO
  • Leverage strategic opportunities in Student Services and throughout campus using 'one college' concept to support and foster enrollment of all students
  • Work with departments across campus to embed recruitment and enrollment processes and mindset into departmental operations

Accomplishments:

  • Increased local and state media relationships to ensure more coverage of notable projects at NCC
  • Lead new strategic engagement initiatives: Comprehensive Weekly Calendar, Monthly Department Highlight, streamlined internal Media/Coverage request
  • Lead and work with Continuing Education staff to ensure prospective student leads and web interest tools are being utilized and managed appropriately for the overall goal to convert prospective students to enrolled. Set standard for teams reporting and operation.
  • Initiated and led team to develop full scale registration day dedicated to help newly enrolled and returning students with one stop shop help assistance through registration process. Resulted in 250 registered students.
  • Developed and led team to construct a new campus life student experience that incorporates multiple departments, initiatives, and collateral from project inspiration to implementation
  • Set priority and led on-campus Print Shop to successfully execute first Every Door Direct/Carrier Route mailing (typically done through marketing agency and not in-house for institution)
  • Coordinate and facilitated all logistics for PBS ncIMPACT series filming to highlight NCC as an educational institution in the Mental Health arena
  • Serve as member of the New Student Orientation team to revamp and improved orientation experience for students
  • Led campus wide printer vendor transition (Sharp to Systel) and managed/provided supervision of cross-functional team of institutional technology staff and Systel technicians to replace 14-fleet (department) copiers and 2 large format production units (in Print Shop)
  • Developed Virtual Dual-Enrollment/CCP Information Sessions - geared specifically to influencers (i.e., parents, grandparents, guardians)
  • Led media relations operation for President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visit to campus coordinate media access (interviews, presidential prep, work with WH Associates); Assistance in and coordinate visit

Public Relations and Marketing Lead

The Public Relations and Marketing Lead plans, directs and implements public relations, marketing and communications initiatives as delegated and assigned by the Vice President of Strategy & Communications.
