Training Unit Officer
I have successfully assumed several positive leadership roles, such as being a mentor, role model, trainer, influencer, and motivator for LAXPD recruit officers. Presently, I am assigned to the Training Unit where I contribute to the collective efforts and productive collaborations of a large and diverse workforce. I oversee the Los Angeles Airport Police Pre-Academy, Lateral Training, and the Post Academy programs consisting of recruits from all backgrounds. I am responsible for the overall management of recruit officers entering the L.A.P.D. Academy. I’m a POST-Certified Instructor of division-wide training for APD sworn officers which includes: Drivers Awareness, CPR, AED, Strategic Communications and Physical Training. In addition to completing the Academy Instructor Certification, I am also an instructor for LAXPD 832.1 Administrative Searches.
My current duties and responsibilities interconnect with L.A.P.D. Academy components, such as the shared goal of ensuring that our recruit officers graduate, in good standing. As the training liaison, I contribute to maintaining partnerships with L.A.P.D. drill instructors, internal and external groups, which supports our mission. Additionally, I’m continually staying current with developments in training by attending workshops, conferences, and collaborative meetings. In an administrative capacity, I manage timesheets, review work assignments, manage administrative folders for recruit officer’s, create pre-academy and post academy schedules.
Vulnerability Security & Intelligence Unit Officer (VAAU)
I had the opportunity to work in the Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis Unit (VAAU) of Homeland Security. My duties and responsibilities consisted of conducting insider threat detail. This required conducting administrative searches, including inspecting LAWA employee badges and personal belongings for potential terrorist threats and prohibited items; conducting perimeter investigations; control access for ACAMS at Tom Bradley International Terminal; training new LAWA employees on escort procedures and prohibited item rules and regulations; coordinating with airlines to oversee special projects; collaborating with TSA/Homeland Security to ensure the safe and secure operations of the Los Angeles World Airports.
