Calibration Technician

Marvin Engineering
Inglewood, CA
11.2023 - Current
  • Conducted calibration traceability to National Institute of Standards and Technology standards.
  • Following ISO 9001, AS9100, and ANSI standards while performing calibration of tools
  • Maintained calibration database records accurately reflecting the current condition of all instruments calibrated.
  • Performed calibrations on a variety of test and measurement equipment including calipers, intramics, torque wrenches, micrometers, and other mechanical tools
  • Interpreted drawings, schematics, manuals, technical documents, blueprints and other related materials in order to identify specific instrument types for calibration.
  • Assessed instruments for repair and replacement needs; ordered parts when necessary.
  • Created reports detailing the findings from each calibration activity; reported any discrepancies found during the process.
  • Ensured that all tools were properly maintained and stored after use.
  • Maintained accurate inventory records of all instruments serviced.
  • Adhered to environmental regulations with handling, repair and disposal of devices.
  • Initiated documentation when instrumentation calibrations indicated out of tolerance or failure.

Mechanical Engineer

SMP Engineering
Glendale, CA
07.2023 - 09.2023
  • Operated the lathe, drill press, and mill machines to manually machine parts
  • Created detailed drawings using SolidWorks software for parts fabrication and assembly.
  • Assisted with troubleshooting existing designs to identify potential issues or areas of improvement.
  • Developed 3D models for product development using SolidWorks software.
  • Recommended modifications to improve system reliability, performance or safety.
  • Maintained records of all activities related to mechanical engineering projects.
  • Installed sheet metal components according to blueprints or drawings.
  • Repaired cracks, holes, dents and other imperfections in sheet metal surfaces.
  • Maintained a safe working environment by adhering to safety regulations as well as wearing appropriate protective gear such as gloves, goggles and ear protection.
  • Communicated effectively with supervisors regarding progress of projects or issues that arise during production.

Starlink Production Associate

SpaceX
Hawthorne, CA
04.2021 - 07.2023
  • Mechanical/electrical assembly of user terminal components, subassemblies, and final assembly according to instructions
  • Point of contact (POC) for V3 actuator line where I led a team of 10-12 associates assemble parts.
  • Helped increase production output rate by 14%. In other words, I was able to meet a 350 units per hour (uph) goal and increased it to 400 uph.
  • Used Microsoft Excel and submitted reports to management that documented everday progress, justifications for downtime, defects, and additional highlights of shift.
  • Troubleshot mechanical and electrical problems associated with the manufacturing process by the use of human machine interface (HMI).
  • Ensured the line was producing at an optimal rate for maximum efficiency by prioritizing specific areas that reduced bottlenecks and downtime from occurring.
  • Inspected finished products for defects before packing them for shipment.
  • Performed moisture level tests on material being used on injection molding machines and verified it conformed according to standards.
  • Performed leak tests on newly manufactured parts to ensure quality control standards were met.
  • Mixed the appropriate ratio of epoxy onto V1/V2 satellite dish layers.
  • Heat treated material to allow for most effective adhesion of epoxy and other layers
  • Operated automated machines used in the assembly line according to established procedures.
  • Identified opportunities for improvement and implemented changes to increase productivity levels.
  • Examined final products to meet the specifications according to blueprints by using calipers and micrometers to measure.
  • Moved items between machines, conveyors and transport equipment to meet production needs.

Engineering Senior Design Project

California State University-LA
Los Angeles, CA
08.2022 - 05.2023
  • Designated Material Engineering lead where I lead my team in ensuring the 3-D printed parts are being met according to deadlines.
  • Developed a 3-D printed airplane that would be used in a final competition against other universities while having attached a powered motor for only 8 seconds.
  • Designed the most efficient plane design in regards to helping it stay airborne as much time as possible as well as for gliding.
  • Selected PLA material for its vast mechanical properties and purpose of this project
  • Ensured to follow guidelines for the competition as well as consider material and manufacturing constraints
  • Utilized SolidWorks to design some parts of the plane such as the fuselage and make adjustments for assembly.
  • Created presentations to present design concepts and ideas to university professors.
  • Developed process documentation outlining the steps required for successful execution of design projects.
  • Maintained accurate records of project materials, cost estimates, invoices, and other related documents.

Mechanical Engineer Apprenticeship

NASA: LSPACE MCA
Remote
01.2022 - 05.2023
  • Developed a small, low cost robotic mission concept.
  • Designed payload, spacecraft design, concept of operations while still meeting all constraints of volume, mass, and budget.
  • Designed a rover that is equipped with 4 subsystems: power, mobility, instrumentation, and sample collection
  • Selected materials to mainly consist of aluminum and titanium for various parts of rover. These materials have great mechanical properties such as having great dissipation of heat, easy to machine, lightweight and durable.
  • Created a risk analysis table that demonstrates the mitigation plans that need to be closely monitored and prioritized.
  • Utilized SolidWorks to generate detailed drawings and bill of materials.
  • Delivered this mission concept in the form of a preliminary design review (PDR) document and presentation.
  • Completed weekly status reports and earned LSPACE skill badges including Teaming, Requirements, Risk Management, Project Management, and Systems Topics.
