Operates closed circuit televising inspection system(CCTV); televises underground sewer lines, storm drains, and sewer laterals; identifies any sings of blockage/debris that may interrupt flow of the sanitary sewer or storm drains; identifies major problems with pipes including cracks, damage, holes, and collapsed pipe; tests sewer systems for faulty connections or leaks as well as for illegal connections.
Operate and maintain, and clean lift stations, wet wells, siphons, vaults, manholes and various confined spaces. Work in lines, vaults and other confined spaces, utilizing proper safety techniques and equipment in accordance with Cal-OSHA and District's safety policies and procedures.
Performs work in confined spaces; performs necessary precautions prior to entering confined spaces with potential hazardous atmospheres; use air quality monitors and ventilators.
Sets traffic control including safety devices, signs, and barricades; ensures safety of public and work crew.
Uses jackhammer and hand tools to expose broken wastewater service. Maintain 450 sewer mains, 8,200 manholes, 18 wastewater lift and pumping stations, including ensuring all pumps are adequately working, install and maintain 40 Flow monitoring stations.
Marks and confirms the location of underground recycled water, wastewater collection system lines, and other District utilities related to Underground Service Alert (USA) notifications.
Operate a variety of equipment including large trucks and medium-sized construction equipment such as loaders, backhoes, trenching machines, and compressors, concrete saws, mechanical sewer cleaning equipment, paving equipment hydro/vacuum trucks and CCTV.
Responds to service calls and uses hydrocleaning/vacuuming truck to clean and flush sewer lines on an emergency basis.
