Work History

Transmission Planning Engineer

Tri State Generation & Transmission
Denver, CO
06.2019 - Current

Steady State

  • Generate and analyze steady state P1-P7 contingencies as per scope of study (transmission service, interconnection, etc.)
  • Perform system intact and contingency analysis to determine any performance violations and appropriate mitigations (network upgrade, RAS, etc.)
  • Perform steady state studies in support of NERC standards including TPL-001, MOD-029, MOD-032, MOD-033, CIP-014, PRC-012.
  • Develop WECC wide transmission models as per MOD-032 using PSSE (.idv/.py), PSLF (epcl/.dyd), and PowerWorld (.aux) formats.
  • Develop and maintain tools to be utilized in steady state studies to automate the study processes.

Interconnection

  • Review and validate interconnection data provided by interconnection customers (developers, IPPS)
  • Perform steady state and dynamic portions of interconnection studies under multiple Open Access Transmission Tariffs (serial/cumulative and cluster processes).
  • Preparing and reviewing System Impact Study reports for interconnection customers.
  • Communicate study results to customers in review meetings and responding to customer questions.
  • Identifying appropriate network upgrades to mitigate any performance violations (thermal/voltage).
  • Cost allocating any network upgrades assigned, including use of distribution factor analysis.

Dynamics

  • Generate and analyze dynamic P1-P7 contingencies as per scope of study.
  • Perform dynamic studies in support of NERC standards including TPL-001, MOD-025/026/027, MOD-032, MOD-033, PRC-012.
  • Work with Generator Owners to verify proper parameterization and operation of dynamic models for combustion, wind, solar, and hybrid resources before their commissioning.
  • Using dynamic analysis to help determine appropriate relay settings for protections groups to implement.

Lead Instrumentation Engineer

FSU Center For Advanced Power Systems
Tallahassee, FL
08.2017 - 05.2019
  • Conducted energy audits on small to medium manufacturers resulting in average of $45,000 annual savings per site.

Research Fellow

FSU Center For Advanced Power Systems
Tallahassee, FL
08.2017 - 05.2019
  • Conducted research related to energy management systems, modeling and simulation of AC and DC power and control systems, and real time hardware-in-the-loop simulation. Machine/control models developed in MATLAB/simulink and validated through Opal RT real-time simulator.
