Work History

Senior EMS/SCADA Engineer

Seminole Electric Cooperative
06.2011 - Current
  • Support Seminole Energy Management System (EMS), a system of computer-aided tools used to monitor, control, and optimize the performance of the generation and/or transmission system.
  • Analyze and maintain SCADA, ICCP and Data Historian system functionality including systems integration, programming, and support to maintain and/or enhance these complex industrial automation system platforms.
  • Perform database update to add and/or remove points from Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) that communicate with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system through various communication protocols.
  • Improve Contingency Analysis (CA) by modeling the exchange ICCP data with neighbor companies through the Data Exchange Working Group (DEWG).
  • Model detail one-line displays of all the substations to provide visual aid to the system coordinators.
  • Conduct multiple Energy Management System upgrades, including hardware, software and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on-site and off-site.
  • Provide database query, report, and script development utilizing C# programming language to achieve necessary system functionality.
  • Take on the task to improve the performance of database update by using Excel programming to create templates for SCADA and ICCP build.
  • Support 24/7 EMS on-call rotation, and provide training to other members of the EMS team to convey technical knowledge. This includes weekly training classes for new members of the team to prepare them for troubleshooting the EMS while on-call.
  • Proficient with maintenance utilities for anti-virus, and OS patch management to comply with NERC-CIP standard.
  • Selected and implemented Seminole’s first SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), LogRhythm platform.

Computer Scientist

SURVICE Engineering Company
09.2005 - 06.2011
  • Working on-site Eglin Air Force Base for the Engineering Operational Weaponeering Analysis division, responsible for conducting classified analysis of weapons effectiveness and target vulnerability used in the current U.S. war effort which directly supports CENTCOM and USSOCOM. Process requires a variety of computer related skills including building 3D geometric models using a CAD program, developing/documenting all input files for the analysis, running various weapons effects software programs, and analyzing the output. Performed all problem solving and debug functions necessary to ensure the program runs correctly and to completion.
  • Conducted analysis using strong technical and computer related analytical skills.
  • Proven use of .NET to develop console and windows applications to automate tedious manual data manipulation reducing work time from an average of 1 month to 2 or 3 days. Engineers were faced with a challenge of extracting parts of a file from a single or across multiple files (CSVs and/or spreadsheet) using a lookup reference as a guideline which requires many hours and are prone to mistakes. I recognized the patterns and repetitions and started developing .NET applications to handle the data manipulation reducing labor hours. All applications are written with error handling capability logging not only the exceptions, but where the error occurred so that the application could resume once the error is addressed.
  • Created Excel macro and wrote C# code, including testing procedures, for mirroring geometries and running CAD models which improved processing time and provided more accurate results.
  • Wrote a number of scripts to improve the overall analysis process. Scripts included using AutoIT Scripting Language to simulate keystrokes, mouse movement, and window/control manipulation in order to automate tasks. Also developed scripts to run batch-jobs for the automated process which could run overnight saving time, money and manpower.
  • Wrote software to convert the target geometry models and vulnerability input files for aircrafts, tanks, and boats from AJEM format to COVART format in support of the Multi-Mode Weapon Project.

Math Instructor

Hillsborough Community College
08.2003 - 09.2005
  • Instructed college students in advanced mathematical concepts and problem analysis using both computer-based tools and traditional methods.

Software Engineering Class Project

University of South Florida
08.2003 - 12.2003
  • Designed a system to manage cars and customers for a BMW dealership. It keeps track of car orders, inventory, customer information, and service records of BMW 3-, 5-, 7- series sedans by using Visual Basic as the main language and files to save data.
