The Director provides supervision, education, mentoring and performance assessment to staff within the area of specialization to enhance performance, assist in business development for MedStar Sports Medicine and to promote quality physician extender services. As an athletic trainer, the Director evaluates athletes and physically active individuals facilitating appropriate referral to MedStar physicians and therapists, as we together design a plan of care to facilitate their return to fully functional activity. As a physician extender, the Director provides clinical assistance to the physician increasing their efficiency and level of patient care and services.

Athletic Trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Coordinators of Athletic Trainer Services are leaders in the overall management of our athletic training team to ensure expert medical coverage and that community outreach is provided effectively. As a physician extender they work in conjunction with the physician to facilitate an effective and efficient clinical environment in order to provide a high standard of care and positive patient experience.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
• All Duties of Staff ATC and Senior ATC.
• Direct and Indirect supervision of all Certified Athletic Trainers across multiple sites.
• Recruitment, training, and evaluation of Athletic Training Staff.
• Initiate and coordinate referral process to successfully navigate outreach community through the Kernan and University systems to increase volumes.
• Develop and Implement Physician Extender Role with University Of Maryland Sports Medicine Physicians.
• Provide Physician Extender Coverage in Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine clinics.
• Develop and Coordinate Outreach Efforts with University Sports Medicine Physicians to provide Orthopaedic Resident coverage to High School Contests.
• Liaison/Consultant to Howard County Public School System Athletic Programs.
• Market, Coordinate and serve as liaison to community partnerships
• Holds staff accountable for customer service and response to customer requirements
• Cultivates an environment that enables staff to work collaboratively towards department and organizational goals
