My husband and I had an amazing opportunity to sell our home in Ohio and buy property to build on in Tennessee. What ended up happening was not what we expected. Everything went wrong with having problems finding companies to do the work we needed, finding out the property didn't have any utilities on it, so we lived in a shed that we built with no electric or running water for more than a year and in our desperation, we ended up with a contractor that frauded us out of more than $30,000.
I wouldn't go back and change any of it other than to do our due diligence in initially purchasing the property and vetting the contractor . The positives it brought far outweighed the negatives.
It brought my husband and I closer together, created resiliency, an ability to overcome huge challenges and a lot of out-of-the-box problem solving.
While I did work a couple short-term jobs during this time, even while having to shower in a tent using a bag of water, I don't feel those jobs were as important as what this time in my life brought to me.
