12 week temporary position in the ICU/med surg/and step down unit. My responsibilities included the same as my position at Northern Light EMMC.
I started my nursing career on Merritt 3 surgical at Northern Light EMMC, this provided a good foundation to practice and master my assessment skills, medication administration, and patient care. I feel it was valuable to practice these things before moving on to the Intensive Care Unit three years later. In the Intensive Care Unit, I took care of critically ill patients and collaborated with the healthcare team to develop a plan of care. I was responsible for maintaining my patients hemodynamics through medications that required frequent monitoring of vital signs and assessment of the patients physical and mental state. My patients were frequently unstable and it required analytical thinking skills in every aspect of their care. Care to family members was also a big part of my job. I educated patients and family members in disease processes, plan of care, resources, and expected course of treatment during the patients hospitalization. I had a great deal of autonomy and responsibility in the ICU and followed best practices with each patient in hopes of promoting the best possible outcome.
