United Postmasters and Managers of America
Two things have shaped the person that I am. First, my desire to teach. This desire is not the traditional classroom teacher, it’s a passion to share something I have learned or can do with others that may benefit from that same knowledge. I am a lifelong learner, whether an interest requires research and study, it is something passed on to me, or something I learn from experience, I want to pass it on. Second, was my involvement in my mother’s many business ventures. She taught me basic business principles and the art of selling. For me, selling is fun and exciting. I get great satisfaction from the look in a customer’s eyes when they are going home with that special item.
My mother’s small business as an eBay seller promoted a wealth of knowledge as I researched the most cost effective, reliable, shipping partner,USPS. With the death of my mother and my transition to another job, the Postal Service seemed like a familiar choice. Initially, my goal from the RCA position is to become a career employee. Once I obtained career status, I plan to volunteer for details, become a trainer, teach the Rural Academy courses, and work my way into applying for a management position. My dream job is still to teach, and I believe that teaching and selling are an integral part of being a successful Postal Manager.
Let me explain, the Postal Service provides products and services that many customers are completely unaware of. For example, I have a friend who buys and sells pool cues, he travels the country and buys out closing businesses etc. He wants to ship all over the United States but couldn’t find the right box. Up until recently, the Postal Service did not have the right box for him. It was by chance that I saw another customer receive medium tube boxes. I relayed the information and a few weeks later, he is now shipping across the country through the USPS.
My thought is if we provide other products and or services to better improve and encourage customers to start using the USPS it is a Win-Win for both. We could provide newer supplies like extra small flat rate and small flat rate (10–15-pound Max) that could fit in a mailbox. Specialty Priority tape that highlights the USPS supporting small/at home businesses and even avenues to encourage nonprofits or individuals to get into the worldwide marketplace with their fund raisers instead of just the local garage sales. Selling and using the USPS as a shipping partner is an educational WIN for both the customer and the service.
My hope is that the Postal Service will offer me the training and education needed to promote better business relations with customers. I would primarily focus on small/at home businesses and teach to the masses on social media platforms. There are millions of “how to” videos, but there are no USPS supported tutorials. We can connect with sellers and teach them at the same time.
I am open and receptive to any position where I can learn, share ideas that provide better customer service and positively impact the bottom line for both the USPS and our customers. I am mobile to anywhere in the United States, rural or metropolitan. I am open to any challenge, enjoy new adventurers and love being part of the process to make a difference. My dream job would be to teach and sell for the United States Postal Service
