Leadership Experience

As a Supervisor and Director of Nursing, I directed all clinical operations of home health patient care – skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social workers, certified nursing assistants; reviewed all POCs, 485's & Oasis; reviewed intake of referral information for medical necessity; medical coding; made sure HHRG scores were appropriate per Medicare guidelines; hired and trained all new personnel. Also, in these positions, I handled hundreds of phone conversations with patients and/or caregivers. During these calls, I was performing telephonic triage, making life altering decisions regarding the patient's care and/or providing nursing care instruction. I reviewed written MD orders or took over the phone MD orders, implemented them into the patients' individual charts and contacted the nurses involved with caring for the patients informing them of any changes in patient care. If the nurses needed to contact the doctor in charge of the patient they were caring for, I would be the one to contact the doctor for them. I would relay the message to the doctor, take any orders, again, implement the orders into the patient's chart and contact the nurses with the change in patient care, thus saving the nurses time in the field. I also handled the nurses schedule in the field. I scheduled which nurse visited which patient. If there was a problem and a nurse could not see a patient, I would find a nurse to cover or I would see the patient myself.

Communication Skills

I have excellent communication and customer service skills, strong organizational skills with high attention to detail. As an R.N., I must be able to communicate with physicians, nurses, patients, patient's families, insurance companies, etc., all of whom have different personalities and temperaments. It is essential for me to be able to communicate with all different genres of healthcare professionals and patients/family to accomplish missions in a timely manner and increase continuity of care with as little stress as possible on everyone involved.

Dance, voice, theatre, arts & crafts and working with plants.

I was a dancer (tap, jazz and ballet) for a total of 28 years. 18 of those years I was also a dance instructor and choreographer. I have been involved with theatre and voice since I was young as well. I was a dance and performance major in college, where I performed on a regular basis. I then started performing professionally at Walt Disney World, Busch Gardens, Cypress Gardens - where I was also trained to water ski - and Sea World. I then made the decision to go to nursing school due to my love of helping others. In my spare time, I enjoy the calming effects of arts & crafts and working with my plants and flowers.
