• Responsibilities include caring for high risk pregnancies to include patients with the following conditions: magnesium sulfate infusions, blood transfusions, gestational diabetes, intrauterine growth restriction, pregnancy induced hypertension, eclampsia, placenta previa, chronic hypertension, preterm labor, premature preterm rupture of membranes, amnio reductions, oligohydramnios, polyhydramnios, and any other high risk patients admitted to the unit.

• Responsibilities include caring for the postpartum mother and newborn from admission to the unit until discharged to home. Providing Baby-mother couplet care is another responsibility. Other responsibilities include caring for patients after GYN surgery, blood transfusions, and antenatal patients. Stork nurse is another responsibility which includes going into deliveries and assuming care of the newborn right after birth and through transition up to 4 hours after birth.

• Responsibilities include caring for the laboring patient from admission through the labor process, baby/mother couplet care, magnesium sulfate infusions, blood transfusions, circulator RN for cesarean sections, providing care for GYN surgery patients, provide care in early labor evaluation to triage patients and carry out orders as submitted by the doctor, and provide bereavement care for patient and family when a loss occurs.
