· Advanced Academics: I have partnered with the Advanced Academic Resource Teachers at both the elementary and secondary levels to increase community outreach with our Young Scholar Families. These partnerships have produced school community events that have provided information and access to FCPS K-12 resources and supports through targeted programs: Parent Engagement Nights and Conferences. At these various events families were able to participate in STEAM activities, connect with representatives from Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), College Success Program, and HS Academies. Also, provided strategies and tools to help their students with their social/emotional development: Stress Management, Self-Advocacy, etc. I believe in active community engagement that strengthens a foundation of trust and collective responsibility in ensuring the success of all our students.
· Staff Development & Coaching: I continuously work with teachers in implementing evidence-based instructional practices, consistent classroom routines, and providing targeted feedback on lesson plans. If necessary, I have modeled and provided classroom demonstrations of instructional best practices and provided “on the spot” constructive feedback to teachers when working with students. Lastly, I conduct classroom observations and coaching debriefs with my teachers to develop measurable action plans and goal setting for the year.
· Special Education Department Chair: As the special education department chair I plan and lead our CLT meetings. Furthermore, I provide mentoring and coaching as needed to special education teachers on instructional programming, IEP implementation and procedures. As chair, I regularly monitor and ensure compliance of IEP and Triennial Reevaluation due dates, providing check-ins with special education team members. Lastly, regularly consult and collaborate with Special Education Specialists (i.e. Behavior Intervention Specialist, Procedural Support Liaison, SPED Curriculum Resource Teacher) to determine IEP support for students and staff members.
· ESY-Special Education Administrative Resource Coach: As the SPARC I collaboratively oversaw the planning of logistics of the Extended School Year program with the administrative team. Implemented the observational tool and rubric to provide timely feedback to staff. Supervised and led collaborative learning teams to progress through the learning cycle with a focus to improve student achievement towards IEP goals. Lastly, I cultivated a positive and supportive environment for students with disabilities by utilizing county resources and providing assistance as necessary.
· Equity Lead: As equity lead, I have facilitated professional development around equity and inclusive practices for all stakeholders in our school. Additionally, worked with the school PTA Equity Team to foster a welcoming environment for our diverse population of families to all feel included and important members of our school community.
· Restorative Justice Tier 1 & 2: I am trained to facilitate Restorative Justice circles in the Tier 1 & Tier 2 levels. As a result, I facilitate community circles that have fostered positive communication and relationship building amongst students and staff. Additionally, strengthened classroom communities to nurture strong social/emotional awareness within students.
· Crisis Response Team: I have collaborated regularly with teacher and staff in creating behavior intervention plans for students and coordinated with them on effective data tracking measures. Additionally, I assist with working with children during crisis situations to de-escalate and reintegrate into the classroom setting.
· Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: As the Special Education representative for the committee, I collaborate regularly with other members on implementing Tier 1 & 2 instructional/behavioral best practices for students identified for intervention. At Tier 3 level, I have provided targeted intensive intervention strategies based on student's area(s) of need. Furthermore, assisted teachers with identifying the proper data collection methods and reviewed data to determine next steps based on pre and post data outcomes.
· Inclusion Model: During the 2018-19 school year (Woodley Hills), 55% of staff had improved comfortability working with students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities in the General Education environment. As co-lead, I collaborated on the initiative to have Gen Ed. peer buddies for our special education students in various settings school wide. Additionally, initiated the process for our school to become a Unified Schools Champion for the 2018-2019 academic year. Therefore, facilitating participation in school-wide & classroom-based activities such as: Inclusion Spirit Week, P.E. Pals, & Special Olympic tournaments (i.e., Little Feet Meet).
· Instructional Growth: From 2015-2017, Virginia Alternative Assessment Program 100% of my students received passed proficient on their Reading VAAP, 75% received passed proficient on the Math VAAP, and 100% received passed proficient on their Social Studies or Science VAAP in grades 4-6. In 2018-19, 80% of my students made 10–20-point gains from the previous year on either their ELA or Math SOLs, with 20% receiving passing proficient on either their Math or Reading SOL based on growth.
· Local Screening Chair: As Chairperson, I coordinate and facilitate the process for possible special education services from the initial referral to eligibility determination. In 2021-22, I was able to decrease Local Screening referrals by 10%-12% with the implementation of targeted, consistent intervention and data collection measures to ensure fidelity and accuracy with student information. Lastly, I have streamlined and organized the process from submitting students from MTSS to the Local Screening Committee and provided clear protocols and procedures to follow.
