When hired at the VA as the Outpatient Diabetes Educator and Insulin Pump Coordinator, there were approximately 75 insulin pumps in use in the Endocrinology Clinic. By taking the lead as the device expert in the ever changing diabetes technology landscape, I have assisted the providers to transition appropriate individuals onto a variety of continuous glucose monitoring systems, insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery systems; as a result, almost 500 persons living with diabetes are experiencing less diabetes self-care burden.

• Provide pre-pump assessment and education
• Make recommendations to providers regarding system appropriateness for individual patient needs
• Assist providers with insulin pump therapy evaluation and insulin settings adjustment(s)
• Insulin pump management skill instruction for basic and advanced features for patients and staff
• Problem solve with CSII users and providers when issues arise
• Provide on-going education for staff and providers on new CSII and CGM device technology
• Maintain proper documentation in electronic medical record
• Order the necessary equipment to initiate CSII, insulin pump systems, cgms and pump supplies
• Maintain current data base of CSII users with out of warranty dates
• Education and instruction on proper use of all diabetes medications including orals, incretin mimetics, rapid, long acting and U-500 insulins
• Provide routine annual follow up CSII skill assessment
• Individualized comprehensive diabetes education
• Provide staff development classes to enhance glucose management in the acute care setting

I was hired by Henry County Medical Center to design and implement an Outpatient Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. Once a thriving outpatient business was established, I obtained and maintained program accreditation through the American Association of Diabetes Educators' Education Accreditation Program

• Provided group classes
• Provided individual care
• Insulin initiation and adjustment of basal, bolus and corrective doses
• Provided individual training support for Medtronic and Omnipod insulin pumps
• Coordinated care with physicians and other disciplines to deliver comprehensive services.
• Implemented on-going staff development training enhancing glucose management in acute care setting
• Provided education regarding diabetes management in acute care setting during each nursing orientation
• Implemented Diabetes Support Group
• Wrote and published diabetes specific articles in hospital's monthly magazine Health Monitor
• Wrote and published diabetes specific articles in local newspaper, The Post Intelligencer
• Served as the Diabetes resource for local agencies
• Maintained electronic health records

Worked as a contract certified pump trainer for Insulet on a part-time, as needed basis for West TN

• Scheduled Omnipod training appointments
• Provided training and initiated use of Omnipod insulin pump system
