Review patient charts prior to examinations to ensure accuracy of information and provide updated case history.
Measure patients' visual acuity, color vision, and ocular muscles.
Perform visual field testing, ocular photography, GDX, and corneal pachymetry.
Maintain accurate medical records including test results, treatments, medications and progress notes.
Administer medications under doctor’s supervision.
Communicate with pharmacies for prescription refills on behalf of supervising doctor.
Coordinate referrals for specialist care when necessary.
Explain treatment procedures and doctors’ instructions.
Conduct follow-up calls with patients.
Provide assistance with fitting contacts lenses including spherical, toric, multifocals, monovision and modified monovision lenses.
Explain how to properly insert, remove and care for contact lenses.
Measure Rx using manual lensometer when necessary.
Prepare exam rooms for upcoming visits and ensure that all equipment is functioning properly.
Clean and sterilize instruments used during exams or procedures according to established protocols.
Order optical supplies, maintain inventory levels and restock shelves as needed.
Prepare billing for cataract post-operative care.
Assist with managing daily operations within the office including processing paperwork, answering phones, and scheduling appointments.
