Unit Overview:
- 4N: High-acuity inpatient unit caring for medical-surgical, oncology, palliative, and progressive-care patients
- 30 beds per unit
- 4N Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 due to oncology acuity
- 5N: Inpatient unit caring for medical-surgical patients, medical patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and end-of life comfort care patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care for; oncology patients receiving active chemotherapy, sickle cell patients, comfort care patients, medical-surgical patients, psychiatric patients and progressive-care patients with increased acuity.
- Conducted thorough patient assessments, closely monitoring for signs or symptoms of changes following chemotherapy treatments using tools such as; The Immune Effector Cell-Associated Encephalopathy (ICE) score & Neurotoxicity (ICANS).
- Deliver palliative and end-of-life comfort care, providing education and emotional support to patients and families.
- Demonstrate advanced pain and symptom management for patients with cancer and sickle cell disease.
- Perform rapid clinical assessments and initiate timely interventions in an environment where rapid responses are frequent.
- Stabilize critically ill chemotherapy patients on the unit for extended periods prior to transfer to higher levels of care.
- Proficient in central line care and maintenance, including accessing Mediports.
- Recognized for exceptional IV insertion skills; frequently requested for difficult access cases and acknowledged by crisis nursing staff.
- Maintain high patient satisfaction through compassionate care, professionalism, and effective communication.
- Frequently cared for medically complex patients with concurrent psychiatric conditions requiring heightened safety awareness and de-escalation skills.
Charge Nurse – Medical-Surgical & Oncology Units (4N & 5N)
- Served as Charge Nurse overseeing daily operations for both 4N and 5N units during periods of limited staffing.
- Managed staffing, patient flow, and assignments while ensuring compliance with state and hospital inpatient standards.
- Assigned chemotherapy patients to appropriately trained oncology nurses during morning staffing.
- Conducted daily audits, medication counts, and unit rounding to promote safety and regulatory compliance.
- Provided clinical and operational oversight for two inpatient units simultaneously for approximately six months.

- Onboarded and trained newly hired RNs, including new graduates, as they were hired across all units fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Supported onboarding and training of 20 new hires, ensuring competency, workflow readiness, and adherence to inpatient standards.
- Frequently worked bedside while simultaneously functioning in charge nurse capacity.

Unit Fall & Mobility Champion

- Conducted routine chart audits to ensure compliance with fall prevention protocols.
- Ensured appropriate use of safety devices, including bed alarms and CareView monitoring for high fall-risk patients.
