Postdoctoral scientist in Dr. Onohara’s laboratory at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and clinically trained cardiovascular surgeon with over ten years of experience in valvular heart disease and heart failure. My research focuses on translational cardiovascular device development for advanced ischemic heart failure and functional mitral regurgitation, with particular emphasis on minimally invasive ventricular reshaping therapy. I have hands-on experience in large-animal cardiovascular surgery, chronic swine models of ischemic cardiomyopathy, transapical device implantation, echocardiographic assessment, invasive pressure-volume loop analysis, and tissue-level evaluation of myocardial remodeling. Since joining Dr. Onohara’s laboratory in 2024, I have dedicated my work to developing and evaluating a left ventricular reshaping device in a six-month post-infarction swine model of advanced heart failure. My long-term goal is to become an independent physician-scientist, integrating clinical cardiovascular surgery with translational research to develop less invasive and more effective therapies for valvular disease and heart failure.
- Conduct translational cardiovascular research on device-based ventricular reshaping therapy for advanced ischemic heart failure and functional mitral regurgitation.
- Develop and evaluate fetal lamb and mouse models of hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
- Perform benchtop experiments to model functional tricuspid regurgitation and assess tricuspid valve and right ventricular mechanics.
- Practiced independently as an associate staff cardiovascular surgeon, managing adult cardiovascular surgery patients with valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, aortic disease, and heart failure
- Practiced as an academic cardiovascular surgeon, participating in adult cardiac and aortic surgical procedures, perioperative management, and postoperative follow-up.
- Supervised and taught residents and medical students
- Conducted clinical research and contributed to academic presentations, manuscript preparation, and departmental academic activities.
- Participated in adult cardiac and aortic surgical procedures and perioperative management.
- Managed adult cardiovascular surgery patients in inpatient, intensive care, perioperative, and postoperative settings under attending supervision.
- Contributed to surgical planning, operative assistance, postoperative management, and multidisciplinary decision-making for complex cardiovascular surgery patients.
- Received foundational clinical training in adult and congenital cardiovascular surgery, including cardiac anatomy, surgical principles, perioperative care, and postoperative management.
- Participated in surgical case discussions, preoperative planning, intraoperative observation/assistance, and postoperative patient care.
- Developed core knowledge and technical understanding of cardiovascular surgery through clinical practice, case conferences, and multidisciplinary team-based care.
- Managed inpatient and emergency patients under attending supervision.
- Developed foundational clinical skills in diagnosis, perioperative care, emergency care, and multidisciplinary patient management.
- Participated in case discussions, patient handoffs, and clinical documentation.
