As a game room worker I clean and straighten up the game room and provide a positive and helpful attitude to attend to other students using the room.
I attend bi-weekly best buddies meetings. In these meetings I assist in planning and preparing for events that are held for special needs individuals to attend. At these events I socialize myself and attempt to connect with the special needs people attending to guarantee they enjoy their time.
As a club member I collaborate with other members to develop flyers and posters to promote events. I participate during events to set up and then work with special needs kids attending. During events I also talk with parents attending, I need a positive, energetic attitude.
You Gotta Believe is a summer basketball camp that I worked at. My job was to be a basketball coach and administer different activities each day for the children attending the camp. I handled my group of kids and my objective was to keep them under control, following instructions, and engaged in the activities and overall to have a fun time.
Families United Newtown is an organization that gives special needs individuals and their families social opportunities to meet with each other through events each month. As a volunteer I pair up with special needs children and spend the event with them making sure they have a good time and can join in the activities. I enjoy volunteering because I love working with people.
During this internship I shadowed a working Speech pathologist in my town. I shadowed Kerry Bell while she worked with her patients. This was an amazing experience to get myself introduced to speech pathology before heading into college and into this career path.
Hoopsters is a special needs basketball camp. At these sessions, as a volunteer, I aided special needs kids in anything they needed. I played basketball and helped these special needs kids play/learn how to play basketball through different activities led by a main coach.
From my Sophomore year to my Senior year of high school over each summer, 2021,2022,2023 I volunteered at a basketball camp at my high school. I've played varsity basketball all throughout high school so I wanted to be connected and help teach the younger generations. This experience improved my teaching and assistance skills. you have to have a lot of patience to work with young children.
