Over 16 years of experience exclusively as a cardiac RN and charge nurse, both at step-down and critical care levels. Experience ranges from chest pain management to cardiac surgery, and everything in between. I have a passion for teaching patients, and providing them with all of the tools they need to remain healthy when they are at home.
As the full time charge nurse on this unit, I am responsible for prioritizing new admissions, making fair assignments for nurses, and directing nurses and NAs, while also maintaining a patient assignment. Experienced with admissions and discharges, TAVRs, mitraclips, Watchman procedures, cardiac stenting, ablations, pacemakers, heart failure management, congenital heart diseases, heart blocks, and arrhythmias. Served 6 years on the unit council. Immunization liaison, responsible for providing immunizations to all staff members each year.
Worked in a very fast paced and critical cardiovascular intensive care unit, acting as an advocate for many patients who can't advocate for themselves. Able to assess patients and anticipate problems before they arise. Extensive knowledge in hemodynamics. Able to maintain an excellent rapport with doctors, nurse practitioners, and other coworkers to obtain the best possible patient outcomes. Very experienced in the charge nurse role, directing others, and working with house/nurse supervisors to ensure safe assignments/staffing. Also worked as an Epic "superuser" to help train others in the Epic computer charting system. Worked with LVADs, IABP, CRRT, spinal drains, Total Artificial Hearts, and other state of the art equipment. Served on the Staff Action Committee, which strives to improve communication with our step-down unit and amongst our own employees. Worked on audits to improve pain charting/management.
