• Responsible for performing a variety of cardiac testing to include EKG’s, exercise treadmills, pharmacological stress testing such as Dobutamine and Lexiscan, Holter Monitoring, ZIO XT Patch Monitoring, Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring, ABI, and TCP02 testing.
• Operate and monitor diagnostic equipment including 12-lead EKG equipment, cardiac stress testing equipment, as well as Vascular testing equipment and accessories.
• Instruct, position, and prepare patients for their individual testing; attach electrodes to each patient to record heart tracing. Monitor vital signs as well as cardiac activity during testing as directed.
• Responsible for setting up and connecting patient to different cardiac monitoring systems such as 24-48 Hour Holter monitors and ZIO Patch two-week monitors. Prepare computer generated reports once monitoring period has ended, as well as interprets cardiac activity for Holter monitoring.
• Responsible for recognizing life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and notifying the proper personnel as well as perform cardiac life support measures during emergent situations such as Code Blue and Met Codes.
• Work collaboratively with various clinical departments throughout the VA facility to include Specialty Clinics, Wards, Nuclear Medicine Lab, Vascular Lab, ICU, OR, and ER.
• Routinely inspect defibrillator, emergency equipment, EKG machines, Vascular equipment, and stress testing machines to ensure working function.
• Possess knowledge of troubleshooting all testing equipment and notify proper personnel when appropriate for repairs and when breakdowns occur.
• Assist with answering phone calls, providing information as requested, and screening calls to the physicians and other medical staff maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
• Edit, analyze, and compile case documentation to deliver final test results to physicians for further analysis.
• Routinely communicate with physicians, case managers, and other allied health professional staff concerning individual needs of patients.
• Utilize highly complex vascular procedures, doubling as Cardiology and Vascular Technician in Cardiology Department.
• Proficient in utilizing vascular equipment such as Parks Medical Electronics Flo-Lab 2100 SX2 as PeriMed Peri-Flux 5000.
• Advanced knowledge of vascular software programs used for measuring segmental Ankle Brachial pressures which assist in diagnoses for Peripheral Arterial Disease and or post revascularization to assess for improvement.
• Routinely screen patients for test suitability as well as prepare patients for procedure.
• Perform complex wound care to include undressing and dressing wounds.
• Ability to select appropriate doppler frequency/filter settings, perform and record doppler measurements, and acquire appropriate doppler signals.
• Perform segmental limb pressures ensuring proper education and preparation to patient. Ensure proper cuff placement, adjust waveform sizes as needed, and can recognize when waveform has stabilized.
• Perform Transcutaneous Oxygen testing. Ensure proper equipment calibration and select specific probes to perform individual tissue oxygenation measurements.
• Precept, instruct, and orient clinical staff on EKG and vascular training resources.
• Involved with educating, developing, and coaching Podiatry students in the Vascular Lab setting as well as in EKG clinic on a continuous rotation basis.
