Refurbishing a Coffee Table
First, I started by thoroughly cleaning the coffee table to remove any dirt and grime with a rag. After cleaning, I inspected the table for any damage. One of the legs was loose, so I unscrewed it and found splintered wood from the leg attached to the bottom of the table. I scraped off the splinters, added wood glue, and reattached the leg. I then used sandpaper to smooth the surface and prepare it for the new finish. I decided to use two layers of cedar naturaltone stain and let it dry. Finally, I applied a protective sealant to ensure the refurbished coffee table remains in great condition for years to come.
Melon Trellis
While assisting my dad with his garden, I advised against growing melons in elevated pots due to the potential of stunting their growth and increased vulnerability to diseases. Since my dad didn't have the time or supplies to make a garden bed, I took charge and devised a unique solution. I placed two posts diagonally between the pots, secured a wooden plank to them, and added a trellis for the vines to climb. This ingenious setup allowed the plants to spread and grow within the pots. Additionally, I cleared the surrounding soil with a garden rake and added a layer of straw to prevent the melons from touching the ground and potentially rotting.
Wood Staining Planters
After I made sure the wooden planters were clean and free of any dust or debris.
Next, I lightly sanded the surface of the planters to create a smooth and even base for the
wood stain. Then, using a foam brush, I applied an even coat of wood stain to the planters, following the natural grain of the wood. I allowed the first coat to dry completely (about 3-4 hours) before confidently applying a second coat. Once the wood stain on the planters was dry, I filled them with soil and planted a variety of vegetables in them.
Wood Working with Walking Sticks
I carefully selected a sturdy, straight stick that reached from the ground to about the height of my hip. I then skillfully removed any small branches or imperfections with a hand saw, using a knife to shape and smooth it before finishing with sandpaper. Finally, I applied a protective coating of clear stain to improve their natural look, increase their resistance to environmental elements, and extend their lifespan.
