- Train staff on veterinary technician duties.
- Venipuncture to collect blood for analysis.
- Administer medications intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, transdermal, and/or oral per DVM.
- Set up for radiographs and position patient for the best radiographic views to result in accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
- Lab work, blood work, urinalysis, microscopic evaluation, fecal testing for parasites, etc.
- Making prescriptions and filling medications as prescribed by the doctor.
- Administer anesthetic drugs to patients in preparation for surgery.
- Prep patient for surgery, apply anesthesia, monitor anesthesia during surgery, and recover patients after surgical procedures.
- Has worked with exotic animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, bearded dragons, geckos, snakes, uromastyx, wallaby, pigs, tegu, water monitor, sugar gliders, gerbils, ferrets, (many birds such as, chickens, ducks, pigeons, parrots, macaws, cockatoos, parakeets, hawks, penguins, owls, bald eagle.)
- Work closely with board certified avian specialist Dr. Ford.
- The last 4 years Dr. Ford an I have done 35 to 50 northern pin tail duck surgeries each year with 100% success rate.
- Have administered anesthesia and monitored for successful surgeries on cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, bearded dragons, snakes, chickens, parakeets, chickens, ducks, owls, macaws penguin, parrots, and most recently a bald eagle.
- IV catheter placement on numerous species; cats, dogs, birds, wallaby, guinea pigs, ferrets, rabbits, sugar glider, etc.
- Solo blood draws on many avian species from the right jugular vein.
- Preparing patients for ultrasound and operating the ultrasound machine.
- Cystocentesis, thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis.
- Urinary catheter placement and maintenance.
- Central line placement.
- Inventory management and purchasing medical supplies.
- CPR
- Treat patients in the ICU and document medical records in a professional and orderly manner.
- Operating both steam and gas sterilizers.
- Wound care and management.
