Under Centers Healthcare and Sigma Rehab, I serve as a per diem physical therapist for Washington Center in Argyle, NY. As a physical therapist in these facilities, I work with a residential and short-term rehabilitation geriatric patient population to facilitate the highest quality of life possible. Treatment often entails working alongside other interdisciplinary staff, including occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nursing staff, and social workers. Duties include evaluating and assessing the needs of patients while providing skilled therapeutic interventions (including gait training, general strengthening, wheelchair management training, and transfer training).
At Goodemote Physical Therapy, I worked as a staff physical therapist, striving to rehabilitate patients with predominantly orthopedic and sports-related injuries. I also worked with a number of neurological and vestibular patients regularly and carried out consistent follow-up treatment, post-surgical care, and re-examinations after establishing a thorough physical therapy plan of care based on an initial evaluation. I also gained valuable experience through an additional cash-based physical therapy business under the same owner. In each business, I was intermittently responsible for scheduling patients and group education events for other therapists.
At Gottsche Rehab I acted as a staff physical therapist responsible for evaluating, assessing, and diagnosing patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions. Duties also encompassed regularly documenting patient progress, creating and following-up with strengthening, and neuromuscular and balance related exercise. Patients were treated in a one-on-one setting, at times involving co-treatment with an occupational therapist.
My role at Fyzical Therapy Balance and Aquatic Centers included evaluating, assessing, and diagnosing patients with predominantly orthopedic conditions. As part of the clinic's scope of practice, I also gained experience with neurological and pediatric practice and aquatic therapy. Treatment was typically one to two patients at a time, with one-on-one treatment exclusively for initial evaluations.
As a full-time physical therapist at Thomas Nicolla Physical Therapy, I gained a great deal of professional experience in outpatient orthopedic care and customer service while working with a wide spectrum of patient populations in both age and condition. Daily caseloads predominantly consisted of orthopedic pathologies and post-surgical aftercare ranging from hamstring strains to lumbar fusions and labral repairs. I also had the opportunity to work with a number of post-stroke patients as well as children born with developmental deficits. In this office, I was able to strengthen my manual therapy skills, patient education technique, and overall customer service while building a rapport with other healthcare professionals such as billing staff, occupational therapists, and medical doctors.
