Accountability and proper maintenance of central files are vital to the orderly

operation of the institution and the incumbent exercises specific controls in this area.

Incumbent assists the Unit Manager and staff members in the

procedural aspects of expediting the work of this office.

Responsible for the preparation of draft and/or final

form of materials such as, memoranda, letters, reports, requests,

etc., as assigned.

Performs a variety of administrative support duties, such as

maintaining appropriate inmate admission, release and assignment

rosters and logs, taking and transcribing meeting minutes, copying

and filing and appropriate disposal of sensitive documents.

Maintains a calendar of appointments for the Unit Manager and staff.

Schedules appointments and makes arrangements for time, participants, and location of meetings in accordance with instructions from

the supervisor.

Make necessary arrangements for travel, arranging

schedules of visits, making reservations, notifying organizations

and officials to be visited, and submitting travel vouchers and

reports.

Composes complex but nontechnical correspondence, locating and

assembling information for various reports, briefings, conferences,

etc.; follows up with staff members to ensure that various

commitments made at conferences and meetings are met; designs and

organizes filing systems for daily upkeep of filing of all central

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent

is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the

institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all

others required by this position and are performed on a regular and

recurring basis.

Correctional responsibilities include custody and

supervision of inmates, responding to emergencies and institution

disturbances, participating in fog and escape patrols, and assuming

correctional officer posts when necessary.

Shakedown inmates, conduct visual searches of inmate work

and living areas for contraband, and is responsible for immediately

responding to any institution emergencies. The incumbent must be

prepared and trained to use physical control in situations where

necessary, such as in fights among inmates, assaults on staff, and

riots or escape attempts.

Authority to enforce criminal statutes and/or

judicial sanctions, including investigative, arrest and/or

detention authority on institution property.

Authority to carry firearms and exercise

appropriate force to establish and/or maintain control over

individuals. When conditions are warranted, the employee may enter

hostile or life-threatening situations and may be required to make

decisions affecting life, well-being, civil liberties, and/or
