• Provide critical care to patients in the ICU by administering medications, titration of IV medications, telemetry monitoring, maintaining sedation paralytics, initiating and maintaining fluid and electrolyte resuscitation, infection prevention, sterile field set-up for procedures, communication with multiple disciplines regarding patient status and plan of care
• I have been trusted in the role of charge nurse
• In addition, I am tasked with training new employees
• Our physicians often prefer to bypass the PACU for patients who are critical after surgery
• I am then responsible for providing post-surgical care to critical patients
• I assist in the insertion of ART and Central lines and monitor values, as well as Intra-abdominal values
• I assist the physicians in performing escharotomies for prevention and treatment of compartment syndrome

• Coordination of all activities associated with the recovery and utilization of organs for transplantation
• This includes fulfilling an extensive on-call schedule, responding to initial donor referrals, evaluating potential donors, obtaining family consent, completing medical/social history forms, donor management, allocating organs, and responding to organ offers from distant OPO’s
• Donor Management includes the insertion of ART lines, ordering labs, medications, IV fluids and vent settings to maintain donor stability and optimal organ functioning
• Communication and coordination with hospital staff is essential to ensure, not only the successful completion of donation, but promoting relationships with all discipline within the hospital setting
