I am currently taking the patient care tech course at Columbus Tech with Mrs. LaQuinta Gallishaw-Gonzalez, I will finish this course December 3, 2025. I will take the PCT certification test soon after completion of the course. I am currently about to be in my second semester of my prerequisites for nursing school. Healthcare is my true calling and passion! I am eager to start to gain knowledge and experience in the field!
Train and direct other veterinary assistants and work alongside a veterinarian. I am great at multitasking, and the clinic requires us to work in 3 main areas, including surgery, daystay/hospital area, and appointments.
In appointments, I am responsible for getting a patient's history, taking vitals, drawing blood, filling medications, administering medications to patients, going over treatment plans, and assisting the veterinarian during the exam. I also collect payment from clients in the room after the appointment. In the day stay position, I perform the same tasks but also fielding phone calls, take triage notes, and address with the veterinarian to determine if the patient needs to be seen today, calling clients to check on patients who have previously been seen, and calling clients about bloodwork results.
In the surgery section, I am responsible for monitoring patients under anesthesia and during recovery, and preparing surgical packs.
