Daisy Award

While working at Depaul Hospital, I was honored to receive a Daisy Award in September 2019 from a patient's family member.  The patient was turning 90 years of age on her discharge day and everyday I counted down the days until her birthday on the patient's whiteboard. Due to her dementia, I wanted to remind her daily that she had a big day arriving soon. On the day of her birthday I wrote "I am 90 today" on the patient's whiteboard and got her a birthday card. My patient was overjoyed! The patient's son was also so happy to see his mother full of joy and submitted a daisy award form for me. Being in the hospital on your birthday is not always the best feeling and I wanted to be sure my patient still felt special regardless.
