Work History

Project Engineer (I&C Engineering)

Duke Energy
Union, KY
08.2024 - Current
  • Currently assisting in part time work remotely on an LSIO (limestone inhibited oxidation) conversion project at East Bend Generating Station in Union, KY as I finish school.
  • Assisting in transmittal, design document, and design package reviews collaboratively with the engineering group.

Project Engineer Intern

Duke Energy
High Springs, FL
05.2024 - 08.2024
  • Coordinated with project managers, construction specialists, engineers, and technicians to construct three 75 MW solar fields in northern Florida.
  • Supervised development of critical power infrastructure, including two 230 kV substations and one 115 kV substation.
  • Oversaw the installation of SCADA cabinets/wiring, Emerson DCS equipment, TMEiC electrical inverters, Prolec GSU, and medium voltage transformers (MVTs).
  • Diagnosed issues and oversaw the installation of the following SEL relays: SEL-751 Feeder Protection Relay, SEL-451 Protection, Automation, and Bay Control System, SEL-3505 (RTAC), SEL-735 Power Quality and Revenue Meter, SEL-311L Line Current Differential Protection and Automation System, along with multiple others.
  • Partnered with industry experts to troubleshoot a very rare transformer issue in which we were receiving an undervoltage with approximately 10% error on phase C of one of the MVTs.
  • Collaborated with a diverse team of professionals to ensure proper GSU backfeeding to the power grid, and also grid synchronization to the medium voltage transformers and DC inverters.
  • Provided oversight for installation and resolved common issues with capacitor banks, GOAB switches, MV/HV breakers, motor-operated switches, SCADA interface, SEL relays, and the Kelman DGA 900 GSU gas monitoring system.
  • Added underground medium-voltage cables that had been overlooked in Duke Energy’s ARC GIS software to ensure the 811 team/ "stop before you dig," could accurately identify energized lines.
  • Created an easy-to-use Microsoft Projects scheduling template to be used for future projects, with the implementation of new inverter-based resources (IBR) requirements derived from IEEE 2800.

Project Engineer Intern II

LG&E and KU
Louisville, KY
01.2023 - 08.2023
  • Conducted investigations into the correction of faulty distributed control system (DCS) wiring by analyzing paths from the equipment termination to the panel board, and finally to the control room.
  • Led the initiative to ensure proper cable routing between HV/LV transformers, electrical switchgear, cable trays, motor control center (MCC) panels, uninterruptible power supply systems (UPS), and field equipment terminations.
  • Designed electrical schematics for the installation of high-voltage transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), distributed control systems (DCS), high-voltage switchgear, and power meters.
  • Saved the company over $100,000 by utilizing decision matrices for project bidding and equipment selection through technical team meetings.
  • Conducted quality checks on mechanical piping by analyzing equipment P&ID diagrams, and oversaw installation for ultra-filtration (UF) skids, heat transfer skids, air compressor systems, and chemical storage skids.
  • Spectated equipment grounding rod installation (Ufer grounding) prior to concrete pouring to ensure that proper connections and ground paths have been established.
  • Developed specifications with senior engineers for a new natural gas combined-cycle (NGCC) generating unit to be built on-site, in place of a coal unit to be demolished.
