- We mainly ran MIG, stick, and flux cored in all positions the application was able to. Stick was mainly 7018 and 6010 5p while I occasionally ran hard facing rods, 5.0mm and 4.0mm arc 80m pipeliners, 3/16" and 5/32" 7024 jet weld, 10018 and 12018 both 1/8" and 5/32".
- We mainly used Oxy Acetylene torches to cut any metal we need. We would sometimes use chop saws or a band saw
- Year 1 I was just a helper and welded on small projects to learn
- Year 2 I started welding on bigger projects like water trucks, heavy machinery, and building head ache racks. About half way through year 2 I became a shop welder
- Year 3 I started getting my own projects like replacing cutting edges, shanks, bushings, etc. By the end of year 3 I was a field welder with a company truck.
- Year 4 I have spent about half my time welding out in the field on heavy machinery, casing pipe, and modifications/additions to our quarry operation
- I also am in charge of inventory of all welding equipment from PPE to MIG tips and nozzles, to rods and wires, to bottles
- I was able to learn how to get jobs done in non-ideal situations and make the situations ideal while maintaining safe practices
- We would have projects requiring blue prints come in every couple weeks that would require me to read the prints
- Zero reportable injuries through 4 years
- Mentored junior welders on best practices and safety protocols
