Research

  • Field Work in Madagascar: June 2023 – July 2023, Assisted in graduate research of the effect of tourism on wildlife such as the Indri lemur species. Set up camera traps in the forests of Andasibe, Madagascar, Performed habitat sampling and replaced SIM cards regularly.
  • Field Work with Dr. Market Zimova: 08/22/22 - 05/15/23, Set up camera traps at Grandfather Mountain in Boone, NC to analyze enticing foods to draw in weasels to increase data on the creatures. Different foods were placed in cages by each camera to determine. Performed habitat sampling in Grandfather Mountain. Analyzed camera trap data through "Wildlife Insights".
  • Cancer cell research with Dr. Darren Seals: February 2023 – present, Work with cancer cells by culturing and growing in different media, conducting experiments analyzing the virulence of 527 cancer cells with and without the presence of vesicular stomatitis virus by performing invasion assays. Utilize western blots to identify proteins that relate to pseudopodia produced from cancer cells, and whether these can be affected by viruses as well

  • Saving Grace Dog Rescue Farm: May 2022 – present, Care for dogs by feeding them, taking them outside in groups, and cleaning, Developed skills in handling dogs, problem-solving, and being proactive, Work in on-site veterinary clinic – make surgical wraps, clean surgical tools, fill prescriptions, prepare dogs for surgery, and help with post-operation recovery
  • Veterinary work in Madagascar: June 2023 – July 2023, Shadowed veterinarians working for “Mad-Dog Initiative”, a non-profit organization, who spayed/neutered and vaccinated dogs and cats in the villages of Andasibe, Madagascar, Assisted in setting up equipment, checking heart rate and responsiveness, and drawing the proper dosage of anesthetic drugs
  • Hope Reins: May 2022 – August 2022, Cared for therapy horses by cleaning corals, weighing and providing appropriate food for age, health status, and breed, Gained skills in collaboration, fast-paced learning, and attentiveness
