Lara Hilgemann is a multidisciplinary artist whose artwork and music are alluringly visceral. Her style is inspired by the techniques of Renaissance painters with subjects rooted in the Medieval era, times in which the grotesque, beautiful, and spiritual collided. Bold colors blend with brash and dainty brush strokes begetting empyrean faces of women ravaged by plague and other woes. Each woman’s gaze conveys emotions that are subtly inlaid into facial expressions and structured poses–at times, appearing to carry an inherent disappointment about what they’re looking upon. In 2020 Hilgemann started taking regular commissions in her signature aesthetic. Her work will be on display August 2025 at Situ Tacos in Ballard, WA.
