Manage a fleet of 300 plus vehicles of various types including emergency vehicles such as fire, police, and ambulance, transit buses, dump truck and construction equipment, highway and roadside mowers, etc for some 30 different departments.
Oversee and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians and parts supply employee in performing daily regular maintenance to major repairs, problem solving, planning and organizing emergency repairs within the shop as well as on the road repairs. Meet and organize emergency planning during unforeseen situations with various department heads for weather events, accidents, natural disasters and other needs. Direct and supervise parts associate in all parts purchasing negotiations while maintaining all parts inventory.
Plan, propose, and maintain a yearly budget for my department. Interview candidates for new hire consideration as well as performing employee evaluations, promotions, pay raises, and disciplinary actions.
Communicate updates and time frames of repairs with the person assigned to vehicles and or equipment. Arrange for pick up and delivery assistance when needed.
Organize sale of surplus vehicles and equipment as necessary.
Daily problem solving within my own department as well as within various other departments to assure needs are being met for each to operate as smoothly and efficiently as possible while working within each ones budget.
Ensuring a safe and effective work zone for all shop employees on a daily basis.
Make assessments of repairs performed to assure all work is completed and vehicles and equipment is in a safe working condition.
Complete paperwork, enter all work performed into computer system, make sure department heads are aware of and understand any and all repairs.
Enhanced fleet efficiency by implementing preventive maintenance programs and monitoring vehicle performance.
Implemented inventory control systems for parts and supplies, minimizing waste and optimizing stock levels.
Maintained a safe working environment by enforcing strict adherence to safety policies and protocols among the maintenance team.
Evaluated new tools, equipment, software applications for potential integration into existing processes to optimize efficiency across all facets of fleet management operations.
Established strong relationships with external service providers, resulting in reliable support during peak periods or emergencies.
Coordinated with vendors and suppliers to secure quality parts at competitive prices, reducing overall expenses.
Performed various welding repairs as well as fabricating new parts when necessary.
