Accomplishments

  • Budget Management, Manages a school district yearly budget for a 6A band program of over $130,000 and student activity budget that manages student travel, meals, apparel, fundraising, and equipment for the school.
  • Parent/Student Relations, Maintains a positive and active role in the development of the booster organization and board of directors to successfully run 2 marching contests a year run with parent and student volunteers to keep our booster organization in a surplus every year.
  • Process Improvement, Hosted and competed in UIL marching contest and the 32nd annual Rocket Review Marching Contest through the COVID-19 online 2020 school year. We hosted 13 groups from around the San Antonio area and increased that number in 2021 to 23 groups including our own as an exhibition.
  • Training and Development, Increased physical training and visual program of 140 member marching band through an established visual program and training guide, motivation, structured goals and increased performance opportunities. Result: Advanced from UIL Region Marching Contest to a finalist at Area G Marching Contest, to a first time spot for the band at Texas UIL State Marching Contest.
  • Special Projects, Managed inner city middle school band program fundraiser to send students on end-of-the-year trip for perfect attendance at concerts. Result: Students raised over $16K in one single fundraiser, resulting in 200+ students receiving a free lunch and pass to six flags including transport for a day.
  • Employee Relations, Demonstrated exceptional ability to work with various combinations of staff teams over a 5 year period with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. Result: Member performance and retention in the mellophone section increased and prepared members for auditions in top 12 ensembles, and maintained a stable relationship between members and staff.
  • Program Development and Event Management, Maintained 6A high school band program through the pandemic through online and in-person learning. Competed, recruited, and retained the program and stayed competitive despite no students attending in person for the entire school day. Results: Performed and hosted UIL marching contest and UIL concert contest with superior ratings.
  • Administration/Team Building, Managed a staff and board of directors/booster organization to work alongside district administration to run 2 major marching band contests with over 35 groups in the fall for the past 4 years.
  • Proactive Problem Solving, Communicated clearly/effectively to administrative personnel at Rhodes middle school that only 25% of the students had their own school owned instrument to use without sharing with another and that with the growing size of the band program, more directors were needed to achieve success in reaching all the students. Result: During the 2008-2009 school year, all students in the program had access to a school owned instrument and as of the 2009 school year, the Rhodes Middle School band program now has 2 full time band directors.
  • Coaching/Mentoring, Recognized recipient of 'Constant Gentle Pressure' Award for Rhodes Middle School for the 2007-2008 school year as a first year teacher by consistently expecting high results out of students no matter what obstacle obstructed their path to success. Result: 90% of the students returned to the band program from the prior year and the band program continued to grow in an inner city school.
