I started painting in oils at the suggestion of my Jungian therapist in college. That led to becoming interested in art therapy as a way of living. I draw inspiration from dreams, current events, and memory and am currently working on 12x12 wood panels in abstract patterns which can be seen as a meditation on climate change.
I also enjoy working with collage and poetry (haiku) in books which are made as gifts to family and friends. I use colored paper, paint, ink, photographs, glue and sewing thread, anything really for image making. I honor the interface between the inner self and the outer nature of life on the planet. The Self meeting the self is the goal of yoga and my work is a reflection of that ideal. I try to examine my own behaviors through art and meditation as well as physical yoga practice. How to be non violent with ourselves is the path to liberation and art helps me find ways to free myself from harming impulses such as doubt, fear, and other forms of negative thinking.
It is a battle, but relationship is all.
