  • In the Emergency department at Wise Health, Decatur I helped Triage patients, preformed IV's, preformed foley catheters, discharge patients, increased education to patients, preformed vital signs, position/ambulate patients, start EKG readings, and gave medications. While triaging patients I was able to prioritize patients with chest pain, stroke risk and shortness of breathe to be directly admitted. In triage I would take vital signs and assign rooms to patients. On the floor I was able to establish peripheral IV's on my own. I was able to establish a 12 lead-EKG and read the monitor to look for an abnormalities. I was able to establish foley catheters on male and female patients. I also worked along side respiratory therapy and X-Ray technician for the best care of the patient.

  • Charge nurse, Renal, Emergency department, and Surgery. While working at THRFW downtown, I was able to work in many different departments. One day I was paired up with the charge nurse where we were able to delegate task, assign rooms to new patients, check the crash cart, and help where the nurses needed it. In renal again I was able to help with the pre operation and post operation procedures. For pre operation procedures I asked the patient about when the last time they ate was and if they followed pre operatively procedures correctly. Verifying name, date of birth and allergies. Where as post operatively I helped the nurse chart the procedure and how the patient tolerated it. In the emergency department I got to watch intubations. I was also able to help patient in DKA by hanging fluids, monitoring glucose and preparing medications. In the surgery unit I got to observe a surgery on a patients lung, there I helped the nurse preoperatively and post operatively.

  • During this rotation I was able to work in GI/Renal, PICC, and on the medical surgical floor at VA Temple. In the GI/Renal I was able to help prepare the patient for endoscopy, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy. Here I was able to assist the doctor with the vital signs and positioning of the patient. I was also able to the the CRNA with the patient post operatively. I was even able to help in a code scenario by doing chest compressions to save a patient. Working in the PICC unit, it was starting central catheter lines in patients to help administer medication. I was able to help prepare the area and educate the patient on the procedure. In medical surgical I was able to help practice dressing changes with a vacuum seal chamber. I was also able to help preform and change a trachea tube and feed a patient through a PEG tube. I was also able to do all of these skills while maintaining safe practice due to COVID
