Professional Summary
In my time, in Pasco, I have taught children of diverse backgrounds. In each of these situations I have always believed in working collaboratively with my team, parents, and other staff, to ensure the growth of my students.
After eleven years home, with my three girls, I returned to education. My first position was a Kindergarten teacher at Chasco Elementary. During my short time at Chasco, I learned the importance of creating inclusive and supportive classrooms for children from diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In addition, this grade level is where I developed strong foundational skills in early literacy and behavior management.
For the past three years, I have taught third grade at Odessa Elementary. During my time at Odessa, I have worked closely with my colleagues while planning instruction, reviewing data, and problem solving. As a classroom teacher, I value each of my students as individuals with different needs. For that reason, I approach teaching with the student in mind. In my class, differentiated instruction is based on formative assessments to support academic levels for all learners.
In addition to these principles, I believe learning happens in a positive environment. My behavior plan includes positive reinforcements, parents support, and student involvement. It has been my experience that students enjoy coming to school to learn when the environment is welcoming. Students need to feel a sense of community. And we work as a class to cultivate the feeling of belonging.
Lastly, and of equal importance, is communication with family. In my class, I send home a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter to my families. I feel this is important to keep them notified of changes, happenings, and other important information about their student.
