  • For two years, I started on a medical oncology unit where I would care for approximately 4 patients and would administer daily medications, monitor vital signs, assess patients frequently for changes, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on orders and changes in status of patient. During this time I gained new skills of chemotherapy drugs and how to administer them and how to care for death and dying patients
  • The remainder of almost another 2 years, I transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit, a level 3 NICU. I would typically get 2-3 infants and administer feeds, change diapers, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and educate parents. I gained infant critical care skills, assisted with delivering of at-risk infants, admitted at-risk infants, and improved communication skills among the multidisciplinary team and families.
