I assisted with taking an armed assailant into custody who had just hi-jacked a city bus with passengers. The suspect entered a city bus, drew a handgun and pointed it at the bus driver. The passengers saw what was happening and went to the rear of the bus. The suspect ordered the driver to take him to a location that was outside the designated route. The bus driver complied with the suspect who continued to point the handgun at him. After about one mile the suspect told the driver to stop and let him off. The driver complied and let the suspect off. The passengers ran off the bus, as the suspect exited the front. The bus driver drove away at which point the suspect fired four rounds at the bus/driver. The driver notified his dispatch of an emergency and gave a description of the suspect. myself with several other Officers found the suspect near a McDonald's restaurant. We Engaged in de-escalation techniques with the subject, who was continuously reaching for his rear waistband where he had a firearm concealed. The subject ran toward an occupied McDonald's restaurant while reaching/grabbing the firearm in his waistband. Myself and other Officer ran after the suspect who dropped the firearm. We then tackled the suspect and took him into custody. I received the listed SFPD Bronze Medal of Valor with 3 other Officers.
